OUGD603: Extended Practice - Brief 10 BBC Me App

OUGD603: Extended Practice - Brief 10 User Research

One of the main objective of this brief was to understand what young people want from the BBC. I was fortunate enough to have a group of 15-18 year old students to ask for feedback and research. I supported the after school club at LCA and I was able to ask students questions regarding my brief.

I firstly started off by asking them if they engage with the BBC and what content they liked.

The findings from this research showed me that the most popular content young people were viewing was iPlayer and BBC Bitesize. I also asked them why they used social media sites such as Facebook, their answers were as expected. They engage with social media because they can interact with their friends.

Further into the project I went back to the same group of people and asked them for feedback on some initial ideas I had had. They were very positive about my designs but also gave great constructive feedback.

OUGD603: Extended Practice - Brief 9 - EOYS Reflection Model

Laura and I wanted to create an interactive wall for the end of year show. For the purpose of the pitch we made a miniature model so that the judges could get an idea of what we were pitching.

Using reflective paper we were able to create a small version of the concept we were pitching. Though each tile (if the model was actually made) would move on its own we added one long arm that users could spin to move each tile.

During the presentation DBA were not impressed with the logo as it was in burgandy and Helvetica Bold. They were not happy as it seemed that we had not explored the concept in enough detail and it seemed like we settled on a default font because we weren't interested. This was the case though I did not want DBA to know that other members of the group were not interested in the brief. I on the other hand really enjoyed the brief as it is something I really enjoy doing. I therefore took it upon myself to extend the brief and come up with a new logo.

DBA loved the marque from the original presentation so I chose to keep this. I changed the font and added colour to the design, this made the logo pop and look alot more fun and modern.

Overall I am really happy that I chose to revisit this brief as it shows willingness to take criticism and work on my designs in order to please a client.
